A Lighter Room

I just took several hours and thoroughly went through stuff in my room! I have bags read for a garage sale, space in my dresser and closet, room for all my shoes, and the best part was I found my favorite watch that I thought I had lost about 4 months ago!

I just wonder why I don't do this type of cleaning more often. It just feels so good.

Now to go to walmart and get some groceries (as I have NO food) and buy a camp chair. See this one on the right. It is one of the most comfortable camp chairs that I have ever sat in and it is made by Ozark trail and can be found at Walmart for the every day low price of 16.88! Click on the pic for more info.

Have a great Saturday y'all!

Missing a week of workouts is no bueno

I'm am in pain. I missed a week of workouts last week and paid for it on Monday. I was dying doing the thousands of push-ups that seemed to be a piece of cake for Miss "let's put our feet on the bench so it is even harder to do the already impossible push-up" Instructor. No, I'm not bitter at all.

But as I was thinking about how my body can so clearly feel the affects of missing out on that time, do I take notice of the days, or weeks that I miss out on quiet time with God. What if we felt that intense pain on the days that we missed our time with Him? I think I would do better at spending time with Him... But I guess the arguement could be made that if we don't set aside that time to spend with God, the consequences/affects (for lack of a better word) can actually be greater than something that I individually feel. It affects my relationships, my attitude towards others, and just about everything in between.

Here's to doing better at it this week. baby steps.

*The picture has absolutely nothing to do with the post except that it just makes me smile.

**Also, if you are looking for amazing group exercise classes the Briargate Y has them!

Summer Time

Summer is great, except for the lack of entertaining TV shows. Why do they decide to put all the horrible shows on during the summer. I want to meet the person who thought that was a good idea... For example, "The Gates", it is about vampires living with humans in this protected community, aka Twilight (for TV). That is what I gather from the millions of previews that I saw for it while I watched the NBA finals. Yep. Boring, and over-done. Does anyone else feel my pain. I think we should protest this monstrosity... ok, not really, but it did feel good to get a little dramatic.

Is anyone watching So You Think You Can Dance (award for the longest title goes to...)? I do love this show. It is way better than American Idol.

On another note, I am reading the Lovely Bones, but can't read it before I go to bed because it is scary. I switched from Peace Like a River, which my roommate loves, but I just got lost in all the detailed descriptions and found myself re-reading too much and then would forget what was going on and then would have to re-read again and the cycle would just keep going. I think I was on the first 30 pages for 6 months. A clear sign for me to stop, so anyways, I switched. Maybe some day I will read Peace Like a River.

Well, that was my ramblings for tonight. Aren't you so glad that you just read this. Smile, you just did something good for yourself today.

Forever

I know... I'm sorry.

Well this past week the Byham family went on a trek through the magical world of Disney. The heat and humidity could not keep us away, although, it came very close. Let me tell you people out there, Orlando in the summer time is HOTT!

The first day was spent at Magic Kingdom where we all were able to be a kid again. Look how huge those tea cups are... See how kiddish we look in them!

We all rode on this giant ferry across a man made lake that it took them 3 years to fill with water. Disney had really made his very own world.

But the heat did eventually get to us and we just had to jump in our very own pool!

It was such a great week and we packed in as much as we could, but it really did go by way too fast! I would recommend though if you are going to go to the D-world do it late in the fall or early spring. It was just WAY too hot.

I'm off to do something now.

Cabin in the Mountains

This past weekend I got to celebrate a friends birthday with a lot of other people that I had never met. We went to Evergreen (which is gorgeous), and stayed in a cabin up there. We ate a lot, we laughed even more, and tried to get a little sleep. It was a lot of fun to get to know the girls that went and I was so blessed that they made me feel so welcomed, as I was pretty much the new girl.

I realized as I was up there that this has been a year now that I have been in Colorado. So I decided to make a list of all the things that I am so thankful for in this past year.
  • I have met so many amazing people out here.
  • I have been able to get involved in a great church!
  • I was able to be here for my family as my Dad when through his heart attack.
  • I live with two amazing women and am so thankful to have them as friends.
  • I was able to travel to Southeast Asia and see Suzy.
  • I have grown in my trust of others and God.
  • My Arkansas friends coming to visit me... maybe again soon (Bunch and Megs, hint, hint)

God's Will

I found God's will for my life and yours...

Be joyful always;
pray continually;
give thanks in all circumstances,
For this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
1 Thess 5:16-18

Could it be that simple?

Psalm 86

This is my prayer today.

Psalm 86

A prayer of David.
1 Hear, O LORD, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.

2 Guard my life, for I am devoted to you.
You are my God; save your servant
who trusts in you.

3 Have mercy on me, O Lord,
for I call to you all day long.

4 Bring joy to your servant,
for to you, O Lord,
I lift up my soul.

5 You are forgiving and good, O Lord,
abounding in love to all who call to you.

6 Hear my prayer, O LORD;
listen to my cry for mercy.

7 In the day of my trouble I will call to you,
for you will answer me.

8 Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord;
no deeds can compare with yours.

9 All the nations you have made
will come and worship before you, O Lord;
they will bring glory to your name.

10 For you are great and do marvelous deeds;
you alone are God.

11 Teach me your way, O LORD,
and I will walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart,
that I may fear your name.

12 I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart;
I will glorify your name forever.

13 For great is your love toward me;
you have delivered me from the depths of the grave.

14 The arrogant are attacking me, O God;
a band of ruthless men seeks my life—
men without regard for you.

15 But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.

16 Turn to me and have mercy on me;
grant your strength to your servant
and save the son of your maidservant.

17 Give me a sign of your goodness,
that my enemies may see it and be put to shame,
for you, O LORD, have helped me and comforted me.

Some highlights that stick out to me are:

  • David cried to the Lord all day long! How often I forget as my day goes on.
  • He is forgiving and good and abounding in love! As Beth Moore says, "Our hearts are not healthy until they have been satisfied by the only completely healthy love that exists: the love of God Himself."
  • All the nations will bring glory to His name!
  • What would it be like to have an undivided heart!? God would definitely not have to fight so hard for us...
  • I am so thankful that He is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and {again} abounding in love and faithfulness!

Pot for Pain

Did you know that the city of Denver now has some 250 Medical Marijuana dispensary storefronts and Boulder has more than 100.

I just finished reading this article on CNBC about Medical Marijuana - you can click the link to read the whole thing or I have some fascinating snippets below... - my comments are italicized

"The state [CO] already has issued more than 66,000 cards that allow holders to purchase medicinal pot legally. A recent surge in applications has produced a six-month turnaround time for processing them. Since a temporary card is issued at the time of application, experts estimate more than 100,000 Coloradans now buy medicinal marijuana legally."

"Then in October 2009, the Obama Administration told federal authorities not to arrest or prosecute medical marijuana users and suppliers who aren't violating local laws. - phew, so glad that Obama is focusing on the important matters of our nation!

"The policy decisions bolstered a business model used by most existing dispensaries--based on serving 400 or more patients--and spawned many more, and offered a measure of certainty to investors who helped bankroll the growth in retail outlets." - finally I can invest in drugs and not have to watch my back... just what I was looking for!

"Since, then public officials have been scrambling to control a movement that has grown into a largely unregulated industry sector that is maturing, with retail storefronts, prominent advertising and large-scale operations." -REALLY?, this is a surprise!

“Very few are turned down,” Dr. Starritt (of Green Ribbon Clinic hehe) said. “Most have already read Amendment 20 to see what qualifies. Mostly I see if they meet those qualifications. She’s turned down people with temporary conditions, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.- wow, I sure hope so! "I’m not sure it helps everybody,” Starritt said. “But I’m not adverse to recommending it if I think it will help the patient and their condition. Starritt says many of the people she sees complain of back pain. -I have a history of back problems that my insurance won't cover me for any more... I could totally get medicinal marijuana... whose in!

About a year and a half ago I was diagnosed with a herniated disc in my lower back. I was in severe pain for over a year before I actually went and did anything about it. I lost all feeling down my right leg. My back would lock into place if I stood up too quickly.

During this time I never took pain meds (besides Ibuprofen). I was in intense physical therapy and then began to learn how to minimize my pain on an everyday basis and adjust my lifestyle. I practiced yoga instead of running, I stood differently, I learned to sit differently. I know there are people out there with way more serious issues than mine was that are dealing with it in a healthy way!

This whole thing is crazy, but hey if you want to get pot and can prove that you have had a pain somewhere in the last sometime just come on over to Colorado. Don't worry if you are concerned with smoking it, you can also get it in all kinds of food (but beware... your hips could increase in size).

Flashback

Last night we had a sleepover for the high school girls and boy did it take me back! At one point we asked what game they wanted to play and some one shouted out MASH! I just about died, I was laughing so hard. So being the great role models we were we dove in and played MASH. For those of you that don't know or are too proud to admit that you played this as a kid, My future life was determined on that piece of paper...

Here is what it said
1. I am going to live in a shack (In IOWA... YUCK to both!)
2. Have 6 kids (gross, ouch, scary)
3. I forgot who I was going to marry... sorry (All I remember is Jim from the Office was crossed out and it broke my heart!)
4. Be an interior designer... hmm
5. Have a black wedding dress (how sad)

Needless to say this was just not a very good future. MASH did not come through for me last night. Good thing you can just rip it up and do it again if you aren't happy with your future, as one of the girls pointed out that she had done it about 50 times!

Then we talked about Justin Beiber (the only reason why I know who he is, is because he was on SNL with TINA FEY) and how a bunch of them were in love with him... I compared him to Hanson and they asked, "who?"... AHHH HHHAHHAHA. It was a very entertaining night.

Probably way behind...

Are you tired of scanning your Facebook pages, then going to your twitter account, or maybe a linkedIn, or Digg, or Buzz... PHEW I am tired just writing them all out!

Well I have been looking into programs that consolidate Social Media into one place. I wanted to be able to read my Twitter, FaceBook, LinkedIn, etc... at one time instead of going to multiple different websites. There are many different programs out there, but after my research I have found a fave (although it is still lacking in some areas!)

I downloaded TweetDeck... You can get it for free here.

Here is where I think it is lacking:
1. I want to be able to put my Google Buzz account in it, but it seems to only accept a few.
2. I wanted to be able to link my blog to it
3. You can only upload photos...

So I now have TwitterFeed that automatically puts my blog updates on FB and Twitter... Phew. Life just got so much simpler. If you have multiple accounts and are tired of reading them in multiple places then do what I did... Or if you have found a better solution let me know!

Now I don't have to spend as much time in different media and can read what I want to read in one place.

The government keeps taking my money!

Today I have finally finished my taxes. Phew... so glad to have that over with, except for the big gaping hole that is now in my bank account.

Speaking of Taxes... Tomorrow I will be feeling like Stanley in my workout. Time to get those girl push-ups on! Work the core.

Some Funny April Fools...

1. Starbucks has introduced two new sizes. Plenta and Micra. So if you want just a little because you are concerned about the thousands of calories in your drink, or are looking for that new pot for you plant... Starbucks has it!

2. Google has put out a couple, but I think this one is hilarious! Google now can understand what animals are saying and so can you! Google Translate for Animals.

3. YouTube may have spent a little too much time on this, but I find it funny for some reason. Not only do they have HD now... but TEXT videos... sweet, my life is now complete.

4. It's the iCade. Are we ever going to stop with this whole 'i' phenomenon. It is a special little box for those that have the iPad and want to really get their game on!

5. Fourwalls - The cubicle search. The location based Foursquare is not just limited to businesses and places that you would actually go to! Now you can be the mayor of your very own cubicle... or someone elses for that matter! Get directions on the nearest cubicle and find out who has the best candy dish! Walmart needs this at their home office!

6. This one I think beats them all! Dharma Alarm clock. How horrible would it be to have to enter in all those numbers just for a few more precious minutes of sleep!

This could be great news!

Verizon to get iPhone Q3 or Q4 2010...

Could be the greatest news... but could be a rumor. What do you think?

Night Sledding and Bailing

Moving to Colorado I thought that I would get ample opportunities to sled... however, this winter has proven very different. Finally, last night we went sledding!

We were armed with sleds, hard packed snow, and previously built ramps that launched us into pure reckless abandon. (Reckless might be a little strong, but you should have seen some of these ramps!). But the thought hit me last night... do I bail too quickly?

See, on one of these hills at the very bottom there is a large chain link fence, that threatens to harm you with every ounce of its being! I was warned to bail off one's sled when it is approaching the fence. The first time going down, I think I bailed about 25ft away from that thing. I had to laugh at myself because I was not even close and just missed out on several more feet of pure sledding bliss. So with each run down the slope, I got closer and closer to that terrorist of a fence, but never hit it. But just knowing that the fence was there ready to get me, made going down that hill even more thrilling. It provided a greater risk, which in turn provided a greater reward!

Sometimes I "bail" from things too soon because I am afraid that the risk is not worth it. But if I let myself get closer, I realize that indeed that risk provides much more reward when there is success!

Brackets Make March Much Merrier!

For the last few years when the middle of March rolls around I pull out my pencil and paper, log on to CBS sports and fill out a bracket. I realized that when you have something at stake in these tournaments, it makes them much more exciting. So many of the games this season have come down to the final 10 seconds of the game where things can change in an instant.

I realized that I learned a lot of habits from my years of playing that are coming out again as I watch. It's these intense moments that bring it out of me and the reason why I probably have some nervous habits.

Just to name a few:
Biting my lip - I would do this while playing when I was nervous or things got intense...
Popping my knuckles - It was a habit to pop my knuckles right before shooting free throws

But then when there are .4 Seconds left on the clock and you score the winning 3pt shot, those nervous habits disappear. Life is good again.

I know for you non-sports fans out there... this is probably a long stretch, but stay with me! My life resembles these brackets right now. I would love to have a plan of how it is all going to work out and know what I am going to be doing in the next month/year... but there are many upsets, and surprises. There are injuries and successes. All these things change the game. There are off days and there are days where you can't miss! When I try and predict what is going to happen in my life, I miss it by a long shot. So I think I will just take my life round by round and adjust to the things that come my way!

A Couple Few Things

I went grocery shopping the other day and I think it was truly the first "real" shop that I had done in the past like 4 months. I found a few exciting things that I am in love with now!

These Bagel Thins are amazing. I get tired of bread; So pop these babies in the toaster with turkey and honey mustard, and life just got a little better! They are also low in calories, but not overly bready like normal bagels...

Try them.

Wigand 05

I can tell that I am at a point in my life where there are going to be some transitions. With transition comes questions, uncertainty and doubt. So today I looked down and I am wearing my Wigand t-shirt from 2005 (Wigand was my flag football team at my school). It made me think about what was going on 5 years ago. I was still in college, was still dreaming of someday doing something. I did not know a lot of things that would happen in those five years.

So then I thought back to a year ago. I was passing out hundreds of resumes, going to interviews and getting ready to graduate with my MBA. I was in a transition time a year ago, but could not see the great things that have come up. I also couldn't see the challenges that came up this year.

I wonder what life would be like if God showed us our lives a year at a time? Would I have wanted to know that my Dad was going to have a heart attack and nearly die? Would I have been ok going camping the weekend before that heart attack? Would I have been ok with him going to Alaska by himself... I don't think so.

So I am so grateful that God doesn't show us everything we need to know. I can enjoy the moments that I have and I know that he is taking care of me each step of the way.

What were you doing a year ago?
What did life look like for you?
What has changed you?

Land Locked...

Because I feel so very land locked and have been itching (yes itching) to get out there and see the sights... I have decided to post some pictures of some of my favorite places and trips that I have taken. Enjoy the trip through memory lane.

My cousin's wedding in Baltimore. I would travel any where with this group!

I Love the ocean. Nuff said.

This was the beach I was at in Thailand with Suzy!

Riding the Moto with Suzy will always be great memories!

Riding the night train!

Now for a quick look at College:

Such a great road trip to Cali!

The PRICE IS RIGHT!

Camping out at the beach!

Grand Canyon!

This was my trip that I took to Guatemala in Grad School... so much fun.

Saw this picture and had to add it because it just makes me smile! My adorable niece Bella

Now lets really go a WAYS back...

This is how I rode to kindergarten every morning in Indonesia... but this is also very typical transportation... This is my brother, me and my Mom... HA!

And I leave you with this... Me and my pet monkey in Indonesia...

Well. I was looking through pictures and could have put a lot more, but it just made me realize how lucky I am to have been to the places that I have been and should be content with where I am at. I think that helped... a little.

What were some of your favorite places?!

My Wish LIst

So, online shopping is typically my way of virtually spending money... You can create wish lists and pretend to be shopping without purchasing anything! It really does soothe my soul. Wanna see some things on my wish list...

{1} This I think is the best shade of blue and I love the little pockets and the length is great!

{2} First of all, not a fan of the heals... but love this dress!

{3} This little top just makes my heart smile... Imagine pairing it with a cute pencil skirt and boots...

But instead I will just sit here and dream...

January 29, 2010

Pampered?

Last night I went to a pampered chef party and got this:

I love to chop things, like vegetables and other food products... not just anything.

And because I love rice, I bought this:
No more rice sticking to the bottom of the pan... and it cooks it in the microwave! How quick and easy. I had one of these (not a pampered chef one, mind you) that I bought for a dollar at a garage sale and we used it so much that the red dye of the plastic started to dye our rice red... probably not a good thing. So I have moved up in the world!

Also, check out this new gadget from Apple

The name that they decided to give it is "iPad". Really? All women are thinking... "WHAT?" and all men are clueless. What is even more funny is that there is a news headline titled "Will the iPad become your Pad? . This was obviously named by a group of men who had now idea, I think Apple should consider renaming this little guy. This is an example of where a name is already taken in the market and no matter how great, and innovative you are as a company there are just some things that you cannot replace in the minds of people.

Well, I stood long enough on my soap box. What do you think of this disturbing issue? Can you really take it seriously?

Snowless Winter...

Shouldn't winter look like this....

Instead, it is just cold and dreary. I would rather have snow, if I am going to experience winter in Colorado.

Thankfully, this is our weather forecast!

Bring it!

Two Thousand and Ten

It is hard to not add an additional zero, it is awkward to say, but it is the year we are in... so we must adjust

As I look back through the past year there were some incredible times that I saw God working clearly. Times that He completely carried our family through and times that were celebrated. I think every year is a year for learning, but as I look back on this past year, it was a significant year of change, growth, and experiences.

I know you are all just dying to see some pics and videos from my trip to Asia... so here are a few.

This video is Suz and I riding on her Moto Bike! We were searching for the Scandinavian Bakery and had some fun on the Moto while we were at it...

The first night on the beach! Gorgeous sunset...

This is Suz and I on the beach... It was Christmas Day. Perfect.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year...

It was such a great trip, learning to navigate new modes of transportation... actually I think I would like to make a list of all the different modes of transportation we rode.
  1. Plane
  2. Bus
  3. High Speed Rail
  4. Tuk Tuk
  5. Taxi
  6. Elevated Rail
  7. Water Taxi
  8. Night Train
  9. Mini Truck Tuk Tuk
  10. Motorbike
  11. Speed Boat
  12. Long Tail Boat
  13. Motobike with a side trailer that we put all of our luggage and our selves in
  14. Motorbike taxis (needed two for us and all our stuff).
I think that covers just about it... Suz, if I missed any comment away!

Each one presented us with excitement and a cheap transportation.
